How To: Make The Explore Page
How to: Make The Explore Page
The best way for your items to be seen on Depop and grow your store, is to have your items featured on the Explore tab. The Explore tab is where the best items are featured. Typically, the items on the discover tab can be sold for more than other items. Being featured will help you gain more likes and attract more followers. It is simply the fastest way to grow. Almost everybody checks out the explore tab because Depop always puts the best looking content here first for everyone to see. Items on explore are sold much faster than regular items. If you see something you like on explore, you have to move fast.
Quality Photos
As mentioned in my previous post, pictures are the most important part of selling an item in your store. You can probably sell some old crusty socks if you take a few good photos in some lighting. Nobody wants to look at your dark and depressing pictures that look like they were taken in a dungeon.
The easy way:
To make the discover page, it is essential to have some decent lighting and background that makes your clothing stand out. There's no need to go try hard and have some fancy studio setup. All you need is a nail, a white wall, a hangar, and sunlight. That is the basis for the majority of clothing on the explore page.
The try hard way:
If you want to try a little harder, you can do what many other people are starting to do and find a model for your clothing. Just like any other clothing brand, you want the customer to imagine their self in your clothing. If your model looks good in your shirt, the customer will imagine looking good in the shirt too. Woah, crazy marketing tactics, business school is crazy.
Depop admins are always lurking to find good content to put on the explore tab. It is their job after all. If something catches their eye, they may put a few more of your items on the explore tab.
Detailed Description
A good picture is useless without a nice description. People want to buy your product, they want to know details about it. They make like those nice photos you took, but if you don't tell them the size, they're not gonna buy it, duh. Some things to consider putting in your description:
What are the measurements? Size?
How old is it? What condition is it in?
Is there anything noticeably wrong with the item?
How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?
These are all very valid and important questions that your seller may have about your item. Be very conscious of these when writing your item descriptions. The more detail you put inside your description the less messages you'll get from potential customers. It happens too often when I have to message a seller because they did not put details in the item description. Save yourself some time and provide details.

If you item can't be found in the first place, it will never make the explore page. Every item you sell should use the maximum amount of characters for the best possible chance to be seen by potential customers. Try to do it in the least grimey way possible. Don't be the scum that puts, "NOT gucci fendi louie chanel supreme". Those are the worst people. Put some relevant information like, "Blue pinstriped button up" etc.
The search engine for the app is not the best so you need to add lots of detail. Your items will only show up if it's exactly what was typed, so if there are a couple ways of spelling something, make sure to add both ways in your description. A lot of times people just search the app just to search, nobody is ever looking for anything in particular. Imagine if you were trying to find your item in the search, what would you type to describe it and put it in your description.
Benefits Of The Explore Page
Growth.
The more you make it on the discover page, the faster your following will grow.
Gaining more followers sets up more likes and purchases in the future.
Exposure.
It's not easy to find exactly what you want on Depop, the explore page will help people find you easier.
This in my opinion is the most important factor of explore.
Money.
Your items will sell much faster being on the explore tab.
This is the ultimate goal of every seller on the app.
How Difficult Is Getting On The Explore Tab
It's not.
Some think that getting your item featured is some exclusive right, which is simply not true. Anybody can have their item featured as long as they take care of their page. This includes, quality pictures, detailed descriptions, and appropriate tags. The rest is up to Depop.
When you make the explore page, you will be notified by Depop through the app. It'll say something to the effect of: "Congratulations! You've made the explore page!" followed by a stampede of likes and followers.
The Other Part Of Explore
There is a second part to the explore tab on Depop that is not just for items posted. It's called People. The People section is where the most attractive stores are featured aside from everyone else. I don't use this feature that much because it does not change often. However, I follow the majority of the accounts featured which means other users do too.
The People section features stores with an overall theme.
Remember how I mentioned a try hard way of doing pictures? This is where all of the Depop try hards are featured for all of their efforts. I believe it is really difficult to be put on the main featured positions. However, you can search people in categories such as:
Men's Clothing
Women's Clothing
Art
Lifestyle
Vintage
Bloggers
These categories are much easier and don't take as much work to be featured. However, you still need an overall theme. For example, if you sell art, your art must be the same style and the photos must be taken in a similar way. Not just anyone can get on to the People section.

How To: Make Deals & Save Money
How to: Make Deals & Save Money
One of the cool aspects of a consumer to consumer retail store is that it's easy to barter with sellers (and buyers). Unlike a typical retail shop, you can adjust prices fairly easily. To get the most out of your PayPal balance, you want to message sellers directly.
Slide in the DMs
The best feature of the app is directly messaging sellers about an item.
Pictures can be deceiving, so it's important to always ask about measurements and other necessary info when buying a piece of clothing online, especially if it's something like a pair of jeans that needs to fit perfectly. When you slide into those DMs, you want get info about the product and pretend you're super interested, but your main goal is to have them bring down that price because private school is expensive.
In my experience, most sellers are willing to come down by $5 or more, which is like one of those little baby coffees at Jo's, or a bottle of water at the movies. Think about that, if you saved $5 for every piece of clothing you ever bought, you could probably drop out of business school and start your own business not really are you still reading. Wow, lemme tell ya, yeah Depop deals are crazy. Typically, most people are nice and probably have been holding on to some of their items for a while which means they're more likely to give them away for less, it's simple business.
Bundle Deals
Here is another crazy original business concept: The more quantity you buy, the cheaper price you get.
Wow, lemme tell ya business school is really something ain't it.
Usually when you find a shop or seller you like, they have many of the same styles you're looking for. This works in your advantage. A seller will almost always cut you a deal if you buy more than one item, if not, they'll at least give you free shipping. Bundle deals are something unlike any other modern clothing retailer. Take advantage.
PayPal
Alright, this last trick is a little sneaky.
Every purchase you make on Depop, the seller has to pay a 10% tax to the app, just like eBay or most other consumer to consumer shops. Some people use this trick to save a few dollars and avoid the annoying tax.
Essentially, you go behind the back of Depop and make an exchange directly through PayPal. However, I would not recommend this if you lack PayPal knowledge.
There are two ways to send money through PayPal:
1) Friends & Family (no fee & no protection)
2) Goods & Services (tiny fee & buyer protection)
Never ever ever send money to a stranger online through Friends & Family unless you want to get scammed in that case go right ahead. If you're going to try to avoid the 10% Depop fee and purchase through PayPal, only send money using Goods & Services.

Sorry Depop, I go to private school.

How to: Deal With Customers
If there is one thing I've learned from Depop, it's that people like to express their ignorance. I don't know about the rest of you, but the best part of my day is going through my DMs and not responding to the half a dozen dweebs that ask if an item is still available when it has been sold for 36 weeks. Imagine downloading one of the most simple online marketplace tools and not know how to use it. It blows my mind.
Ignore Them
If you want to live a long and happy life, your best bet is to ignore the customers that don't even take the time to read the bold yellow box directly on top of the item that reads 'SOLD'. If I took the time to respond to every scrub that lacks fundamental reading skills, I would be bleeding at the thumbs everyday. If you want to keep your sanity, the best bet is to not respond to Depop chumps.
Be Rude
Ignoring people is always a great go-to option, but everybody has bad days. When you run your own shop, you are your own boss, you are not responsible for wiping the bottoms of your customers. Being rude to a customer will only make them correct their own behavior. In the long run you are helping other Depop shops and making the app a better place for sellers.

Make Friends
The majority of customers on Depop are cool people. It's not uncommon to start normal conversation when someone asks a question about an item. You never know, you might have a few new IG followers you met from your online shop.

How To: Increase Sales On Depop
How do I increase my sales?
The depop game isn't easy. Like many other online retailers, it's a struggle out here. When I first got into the app, I thought I could just take old decrepit shirts from my closet and use tags like "vintage" and "ultra rare" to justify charging $30 or more per shirt.
As you may have already guessed, I was completely right. Depop users are extremely gullible, they will buy anything as long as it's expensive and nobody wants it. The crustier the better! Those old Mickey Mouse sweaters that your parents have stored in their closet? Those are hot right now. Cash out on those ASAP!
I will be showing one of these typical, ultra rare, vintage gems in a great example of a post I found on Depop. This particular post makes the buying experience extremely easy for the customer resulting in instant cash!
What makes this post special?
Pictures
To an inexperienced Depop user, this post may seem normal, but I assure you this is a quality piece of content. The most important piece of a post is the picture.
As a heavy user of the app, I can say that there are many pictures that look like they were taken from a Motorola Razor, they do not represent the item to its full potential. I promise you can sell almost anything on this app as long as you represent it well.
As seen in the picture, the sweater is completely visible along a solid white background, which is typically what you want. Notice the sweater is taken in bright light, but still hides any possible crust marks from the 80s when your dad use to rock this vintage gem.
Measurements & Tags
Whenever you make a post, something that everyone does is leave a little description of what the item is. What almost nobody does is leave specific measurements of the item to inform the potential buyer. This avoids dozens of messages in your inbox asking you for extra size information. This is a great example of providing the market with as much information as possible.
Tags are also very important in a post because they attract more buyers. If you really want to go try-hard like the example post, you should use every single character that you are allowed in the description. This will maximize your selling potential.
